I start by understanding what the business needs from technology and how the team works today. Then we agree the responsibilities, priorities and working practices needed to make progress.
01
Understand the business and the technology function
I talk with business leaders and the people doing the work. I review the product, commitments, team structure and relevant systems to understand where technology helps and where progress is difficult.
02
Agree direction and responsibility
We set priorities, identify the decisions that need an owner and agree how responsibilities are shared. Significant trade-offs and assumptions are written down.
03
Lead the people and the work
I work with team leads, engineers and stakeholders to turn priorities into delivery. Depending on the role, I direct the department, manage delivery, coach leaders or guide specific technical work.
04
Keep decisions and progress visible
Updates cover what has changed, what comes next, where risks remain and which decisions need attention. Changes to scope, resources, cost or timing are discussed before commitment.
05
Strengthen the organisation over time
I build clear ownership, develop people and improve the practices the organisation relies on. We review results and adjust the plan as the business and team evolve.
Questions people ask
The practical side of working together.
How can we work together?
We can discuss fractional CTO support, technology department leadership or a focused management or technical project. We start with the responsibility you need someone to take.
Can you work with our existing team?
Yes. We agree responsibilities, decision authority and the working relationship with your existing leaders, engineers or agency.
Do you also build software?
Yes. Software development is a focused service, and I can review, prototype or implement within a leadership engagement where that scope is agreed.
How much time can you provide?
The commitment depends on the role or project. Working cadence, availability and response expectations are agreed before the engagement begins.
How do engagements begin?
Tell me what your organisation needs from technology, where progress is difficult and the responsibility you need someone to take. We can discuss the role or engagement that fits.
How will we know the work is helping?
We agree indicators relevant to the problem, establish the starting point and review progress. That might include clearer ownership, release predictability or progress against agreed technical priorities.
